The history
Our Lady of Fatima, in Her revelations to the three little shepherds — Jacinta, Francisco and Lucia — said that the Lord Jesus wants to establish in the world devotion to Her Immaculate Heart, to make Her better known and loved among people. At Fatima, on July 13th, 1917, Our Lady said: „You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God wishes to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace.”
„I shall come to ask for the Consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the First Saturdays.”
This devotion consoles the Immaculate Heart of Mary which suffers so greatly from the outrages of sinners. In reward, She promises eternal salvation to all those who faithfully fulfill this practice! Through this devotion, the faithful can help save many souls from condemnation and from the punishments and disasters foretold by the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The message of Fatima did not end with the series of apparitions in the Cova da Iria in 1917.
On December 10, 1925, the Most Holy Virgin Herself appeared, and beside Her, borne by a luminous cloud, the Child Jesus. The Most Holy Virgin put Her hand on her shoulder and showed her, at the same time, a Heart surrounded by thorns which She held in the other hand. At that same moment, the Child said to her:
„Have compassion on the Heart of your Most Holy Mother, covered with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce It at every moment, and there is no one to make an act of reparation to remove them.”
Then the Most Holy Virgin said:
„Look, My daughter, at My Heart, surrounded with thorns with which ungrateful men pierce Me at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude. You at least try to console Me and announce in My name that I promise to assist at the moment of death, with all the graces necessary for salvation, all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months shall receive the sacrament of Confession, receive Holy Communion, recite five decades of the Rosary, and keep Me company for fifteen minutes while meditating on the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to My Immaculate Heart.”
„I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls.”
The goal
We call the records from Ponteverda the Great Promise. But maybe it would be appropriate to call this apparition for a Great Plea for Compassion? For which of these two is more essential: promise of getting the graces or the joy coming from the possibility to give some compensation to suffering Heart of Mother? Another comparison: receipt of graces in hour of death or living with awarness that so many people make Heart of Mother suffer? For anybody, who really knows Mary and truly loves Her, exist one anwser: Our own benefit does not count at all, but it is The Virgin Mary who is the most important. That includes Her pain, sadness, thorns pinned in Her Heart. For those who truly love Her, to provide consolation to Her is what matters.
Our Lady's Promise of Protection contains the most beatiful message, that can be heared by anyone who truly loves the Mother. This message is a reason why the true worshippers are keen on assisting the next First Saturdays Mass. For these people the possibility to join Virgin Mary in contemplation of Jesus life is atrium of heaven. Is there any greater consolation on this earth than to unite our heart with The Heart of Our Holy Mother and take part in Her contemplation?
The nature of the Devotion of First Saturday
The Five First Saturdays Devotion is about having intention to compensate for sins against The Immaculate Heart of Sacred Virgin, and not so much for secure in time of last hour. Just as with the Devotion of The Nine First Fridays, one cannot just suggest "It is all good now, I madeit to first five fridays, i am saved". From the moment one has begun a devotion of this kind, life has become a constant combat against temptations and weaknesses, that push us away from the right path. However this Devotion is a great succour in a quest for eternal happiness. In order to properly attend to it and obtain much spiritual benefit, one ought to have a desire to live each day in state of sanctifying grace under protection of Our Lady. If we will be like children who desire to soothe pain of beloved Father and Mother, pain caused by detachement and scorn - both coming mainly from those who do not love God, let us rest comforted that in the hour of death we will receive protection, succour and presence of Our Lady.
